RULES & SAFETY
Please read below our rules and safety regulations that must be followed at all times. You are advised that climbing is a Dangerous Recreational Activity with Obvious Risks as defined by the Civil Liability Amendment (Personal Responsibility) Act. YOU ARE PARTICIPATING AT YOUR OWN RISK.
GENERAL FACILITY RULES:
You must obey directions from staff at all times. Refusal to do so can result in you being asked to leave.
Every guest must sign the Waiver, Health Questionnaire & Membership Agreement before entering the climbing area. No Exceptions. It is the Member’s responsibility to read and understand the Waiver, Health Questionnaire, Member Agreement and Facility Rules. Anyone under eighteen (18) must have their parent or legal guardian sign their Member Agreement.
If you refuse to fill out our Waiver or Health Questionnaire, you will not be allowed to climb or belay.
Members must check in at the front desk before entering the climbing area, even if you have a membership and don’t need to pay.
All climbers and those supervising climbers must go through a Gym Orientation before climbing.
Members under twelve (12) must be supervised by a responsible adult at all times, in all areas of the gym. Supervising adults must be attentive and ensure climbers follow the gym rules.
To use our designated training and bouldering areas Members must be over the age of 16 years, unless permitted by staff.
No running is allowed in the gym.
Bullying won’t be tolerated under any circumstances.
Pushing, rough horseplay, swinging on top ropes or foul language will not be tolerated.
All injuries must be reported to a staff member immediately.
Climbing is only allowed on the climbing walls.
No jumping or flipping off structures or furniture.
Climbing shoes are not allowed in the bathroom. Please remove them before entering.
Street shoes are not allowed on the pads or climbing walls.
Smoking or vaping is not allowed in the facility.
Report any bodily fluids (blood, urine, etc.) found in the gym immediately.
Please clean up after yourself in our bathrooms and kitchens.
Please notify our staff of any loose or spinning holds.
Check and make sure you have all your belongings before leaving the gym. The Nest is not responsible for any lost or stolen property except in the case of our gross negligence.
No one under the influence of drugs or alcohol may use the facility.
If you have any confusion or uncertainty regarding our rules and safety procedures, please ask The Nest staff for help.
BELAY, TOP ROPE AND LEAD CLIMBING RULES
Everyone is responsible for the well-being of themselves and others around them. Practice caution in the climbing areas. Never stand, sit or lie down beneath the climbing walls. Check for climbers before walking through the climbing areas. Never climb above, below or near another climber.
No one is allowed to belay or climb without passing the appropriate proficiency test. The Nest staff reserve the right to deny the usage of certain climbing areas if a Member cannot pass the proficiency test.
You must be ten (10) years old or older to Top Rope belay for another climber. Members under ten (10) are not allowed to Top Rope Belay.
Members under fifteen (15) are not allowed to Lead Belay.
Even if you are an experienced climber, if you are filling out a Waiver and climbing at The Nest for the first time, you must go through a belay induction / proficiency test with a staff member.
You must follow all rules and procedures outlined in our belay orientation while top roping.
It is strictly not permitted to take photos or use a mobile phone while belaying.
Even if you are an experienced lead climber, you may not lead in our gyms without The Nest staff issuing a lead pass. Please contact us if you are interested in acquiring one.
We do not recommend climbing in harnesses that are more than five (5) years old.
Members bringing their own equipment are responsible for ensuring it adheres to the International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation (UIAA) (Australian Standards AS 2316.1-2009) guidelines and standards and that it is in good working condition according to the manufacturer’s requirements. The Nest reserves the right to deny the use of any equipment.
The Nest requires the use of Assisted Braking Devices while belaying in the gym.
If you fail the lead or top rope test you must wait 24 hours before retesting.
Climbers must adhere to The Nest’s current standard for belay and climbing as practiced in the proficiency test. Certain belay methods may not be allowed. The boulder figure 8 knot is the only permitted tie in method.
Climbers must not skip clips when lead climbing or take unreasonably long falls that may present a hazard to the climber or belayer.
Belayers should always be attentive while belaying and practicing current belay standards as set forth by The Nest instructors and management.
All personal items must be stowed away from the climbing areas and should not present a fall hazard.
Anyone climbing with hands above three (3) meters must be “on-belay” unless they are climbing in designated bouldering areas.
Only climbing shoes are allowed on climbing walls. Street shoes or bare feet are not allowed on the climbing walls.
Any object should be removed from pockets before climbing.
Headphones and earbuds must be removed while rope climbing or belaying.
Only employees are allowed behind the climbing walls.
BOULDERING RULES
Members under the age of 16 are prohibited from entering the bouldering areas unless permitted by staff.
Birthday parties and group bookings need special permission from staff members to use our bouldering and training areas, and our staff may revoke access to these areas at any time at their discretion.
Our Spray Wall is restricted for people 16 years or older. Younger members may use the board with coach supervision or with permission from a staff member.
Please ensure you have paid or checked in at the front desk before you begin bouldering.
Do not climb, stand, or sit underneath other climbers while they are bouldering.
Traversing is NOT permitted in bouldering or top-roping areas.
All personal items must be stored in the allocated spaces, away from the climbing mats, and not present a fall hazard.
Only climbing shoes are allowed on bouldering walls. Street shoes or bare feet are not allowed on the climbing walls.
Do not jump off the boulder top out area, you must always downclimb.
Mobile phones, keys and other belongings should be removed from pockets before climbing.
Only employees are allowed behind the climbing walls.
